Golsamin is a combination of methyl salicylate and menthol.
- Methyl salicylate is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is mainly used in the form of topical creams, massage oils, or patches. Methyl salicylate inhibits the synthesis of Prostaglandin E2, thus reducing the sensory properties of the sensory tips to the pain. Methyl salicylate inhibits pain, histamine, serotonin. The analgesic effects of methyl salicylates are closely related to their inflammatory pathogenesis such as bradykinin, histamine, and serotonin. The action of salicylates, causing dilation of the skin vessels. Methyl salicylate has local anti-inflammatory effects.
- Menthol has a cooling effect, which inhibits pain receptors. Menthol relieves itching, dilates the vessels causing a sensation of coldness followed by an analgesic effect. When combined with methyl salicylate, menthol increases the blood conductivity of methyl salicylate as well as the effects of methyl salicylate.
- Pharmacokinetic properties:
After applying Golsamin lotion to the skin, active ingredients as methyl salicylate and menthol will be partially absorbed through the skin and enter the general circulation system. According to a new study after applying the active ingredients to the skin of volunteers, concentrations of menthol and methyl salicylate could only be measured with a large amount of the dressing. The half-lives of menthol and methyl salicylate are 5.6 ± 1.6 h and 3.0 ± 1.2 h, respectively. Methyl salicylate after being absorbed will be excreted by the kidneys and appear in the urine after 8 hours.
